The Client
As the UK’s largest and most successful independent express carrier, Target Express has developed a strong reputation over the last 20 years for an unrivalled quality of service within the express distribution market. With a turnover in excess of £140m and more than 50 UK depot sites, Target’s aim is to deliver a consistently excellent “silver service” to its 2000 strong b2b customer base.

Background
Egan Reid was first approached to provide a quote for the furniture requirements of one of Target’s larger depot sites in Leeds. However, it soon became apparent to Target’s central procurement team that Egan Reid could add much more value to the business than pure furniture supply.

Initially, Egan Reid met on site with Target’s Leeds depot management team to gain a detailed understanding of the underlying project needs. Having scoped the real business requirements, Egan Reid then undertook an inventory audit as part of the overall project scoping and recommended Target to consider working around existing furniture stock to optimise the budget. Working with the latest CAD technology and ensuring adherence to new Health and Safety standards, ensured that the project was delivered way beyond the client ’s initial expectations.

Once the project was completed, Egan Reid’s commitment to go beyond the call of duty was highlighted when the roof literally fell in on the Leeds depot following a lightning strike! The Egan Reid team was on site within 12 hours to offer advice and support on minimising the damage, helping the depot to quickly resume full service.

A True Partnership Emerged
The responsiveness and commitment to service excellence provided by the Egan Reid team was further recognised in the subsequent refurbishments at the Bicester, Preston, Sheffield, Coventry and Swindon depots. Consequently, when the time came to refurbish the Target Express Head Office in Newton, Egan Reid were immediately appointed to work on the project.

“Egan Reid has quite literally become an extension of our team,” comments Target’s General Manager Facilities & Purchasing. “It is really quite refreshing to work alongside a supplier who does not jump in with an answer before we have even asked the question. We have real peace of mind when working with Egan Reid as they are such perfectionists!”

A unique challenge during the project to refurbish Target’s Head Office was to build a welcoming reception area in a tiny space that was originally designed as a stairwell. Again the planning skills and practical skills of the Egan Reid team produced an effective result, designing a contemporary reception desk in wood with a modern stainless steel finish.
