Egan Reid was recently approached by Cheadle Hulme High School to propose and execute a solution for their recently extended sixth form block. This Ofsted outstanding school required a modern and flexible solution for this project in order to optimise their IT suite as well as improve existing canteen and meeting areas.
This was a large-scale project for us, encompassing CAD drawings, furniture selection and installation. Due to the high-use, high-traffic nature of the spaces, we opted for robust materials, practical shapes and durable fabrics to create a comfortable, flexible and functional area for both students and staff.
Starting with the canteen area, we sourced low dining chairs and fitted dining units from Edge design. We chose this manufacturer because of their versatile and diverse furniture, focusing on modern furnishings ‘designed for a diversity of applications’ and perfect for day to day wear. We also included fitted dining units, helping to create a variety of communal spaces for students and staff to dine, meet and work.
The advanced IT suite has been fitted out with sleek Zebrano surface tops. Known for not only looking good this wood is strikingly contemporary and provides years’ worth of sturdy surfacing, suitable for a high volume of use every day. Combining sleek counters with robust zinc legs guarantees durable, long-lasting wear.
In addition to the main canteen hub and IT Suite, Egan Reid were also approached to fit out various general office and meeting rooms. Continuing the design theme, we continued the Zebrano surfaces and zinc legs combination throughout, and with design drawings created the best furniture combinations to make the most out of each individual space. A well-designed meeting room can put attendees at ease, encourage conversation and induce creativity – as Cheadle Hulme High focuses on not only its pupils but its staff too, we ensured that each room benefitted from dynamic and flexible working and learning possibilities.
