Why have a LifeVac device on your premises?
Choking is one of the leading causes of accidental deaths, particularly in children and those over the age of 65. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, approximately 351 individuals die annually in the UK as a direct result of choking. Choking can lead to death in under 10 minutes, with irreversible brain damage occurring in less than 6 minutes due to oxygen deprivation. The UK ambulance service targets an average response time of 8 minutes; however, if a person is deprived of air for this duration, the likelihood of severe brain injury is significantly increased.
Having a LifeVac on your premises will ensure that both children, staff, and visitors will be protected in the case of a choking accident, be that on food, medications, dental appliances or everyday items.
How to use a LifeVac
1. Push and twist the mask into the base of your LifeVac unit.
2. Hold the mask firmly in place over their mouth and nose with your less dominant hand, making sure their head is tilted back.
3. Use your dominant hand on the LifeVac handle, depress and then pull upwards with a short, swift tug (while holding the mask firmly in place).
4. Roll the person onto their side, check their mouth to clear any debris, and repeat the process up to five times if the obstruction is not cleared.
The Evolution case
The bold yellow Evolution case is specially designed to protect the contents of the LifeVac kit. Manufactured in the UK, it reduces unnecessary carbon emissions and is fully recyclable when replacement is needed. The case includes a wall-mountable bracket that can be securely fixed using screws (not supplied). This ensures the kit remains highly visible and easily accessible to everyone in the vicinity. Additionally, the bracket design makes it immediately apparent if the kit has been removed by displaying a ‘Choking Rescue Kit Missing’ message.
Mounting the kit on the wall significantly reduces response time during emergencies by eliminating the need to search for supplies, enabling rapid access when every second counts.
