Communal Space
Broadstone Mill
An iconic local landmark at the heart of Stockport’s industrial past, Broadstone Mill nowadays is
home to a thriving business, retail and leisure community, after undergoing an extensive restoration
and redesign programme in 2001. Worksmart, located on the fourth floor of the mill, offers a
selection of flexible, affordable office space for small businesses and startups, with shared breakout
areas and on-demand meeting rooms.
Working alongside interior design practice Electric Blue Interiors, the Egan Reid team fully
refurbished the lacklustre communal areas to provide users with practical, functional co-working,
social, kitchen and washroom spaces. This included a full rip-out of the existing space,
reconfiguration and new fit-out to a club space standard that has totally lifted the tenant
experience. The design not only combines old and new, but also celebrates the mill’s history and
original features, with exposed brickwork, unfinished wood flooring, and bespoke wallpaper and
artwork. The rich colour palette and variety of textures add depth and contrast to the scheme, which
is completed with comfortable, private booths, vintage-inspired seating and plants to help soften
and zone the space.

Jenny Leishman – Building Manager, Broadstone Mill Ltd
Working with Egan Reid’s interiors team alongside our interior designer and property consultant made the whole process really smooth and hassle-free. What’s more, they managed to deliver this ambitious project with minimal disruption to our tenants, who are now absolutely delighted with the end result.

It’s been a true pleasure seeing local businesses Egan Reid, Electric Blue Interiors and the Worksmart @ Broadstone Mill team come together on this project, and I look forward to further phases of re-development at the Mill.
Charlie Reid – Project Manager
The team have taken great pride in injecting a new lease of life to the space and challenged themselves to preserve the building’s original features and history. The refurbished space brings something really special to Broadstone Mill and has everything potential tenants may be looking for.
